Horsetail (Equisetum hyemale) has been around for 350 million years. It was much taller in the time of dinosaurs – approximately 20 feet! ? Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors opens on May 17th and runs through July 17th. Step into the past on a journey across continents and encounter 10 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs as they inhabit our grounds - there`s plenty to learn and nothing to fear from these fascinating creatures! ?: Lee Page #WildflowerCenter #StayWild #Dinosaurs May 10 Open The newest arrivals to the Wildflower Center family are growing up fast! These cute owlets hatched in early April and are now - quite literally - spreading their wings. The owlets spend around 6 to 7 weeks in their cozy nest before taking their first flight. Once they`re out, it`s time for some serious owl training - hunting lessons and flying practice under the watchful eyes of their wise parents (who are usually stationed nearby). By July or August, these fledglings will be ready to soar into the world on their own, thanks to the guidance of Athena and her teachings. Stay up to date on their progress by visiting the link in our bio, where you can watch @cornellbirdcams live feed of the nest, learn owl facts, and more!? ?: Bubo virginianus owlets, photo by Bill J. Boyd #WildflowerCenter #StayWild May 9 Open With a sea of blooms at the Wildflower Center right now, lots of pollinators are here for the buffet! This photo of a male black-chinned hummingbird feeding on a red yucca was taken by our volunteer photographer, Bill Boyd. These fast-flying birds love red flowers, like flame acanthus (Anisacanthus quadrifidus var. wrightii), red buckeye (Aesculus pavia) and trumpet vine (Campsis radicans). To help protect the black-chinned hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri) and other endangered species, you can either click the link in our profile or visit wildflower.org/adopt before May 14th. By doing so, you can symbolically adopt these pollinators! Each adoption package includes a kit that can be easily emailed and printed, containing three weekly activity sheets and a certificate of completion. We extend our gratitude to everyone who has already adopted pollinators, as your support is vital for maintaining the vibrancy of our gardens. ?: Bill J. Boyd #StayWild #WildflowerCenter May 8 Open Join us at the Wildflower Center for Lady Bird Day on May 11th, honoring our founder`s incredible environmental legacy in Texas and beyond!
